Footprints Women's Scheme Receives Commendation from the Howard League Community Awards

We are delighted to announce our Out of Court Diversionary Scheme for vulnerable women in partnership with Dorset Police has been awarded a commendation the Howard League for Penal Reform Community Award Women's Category.

The pilot project ran from April 2019-20 and saw over 80 women supported. 90% successfully completed the scheme and no women have been reconvicted since the start of the scheme.

The scheme is a true partnership between Footprints and Dorset Police and has since been expanded to enable us to take on another member of staff.

We are also pleased to announce that the scheme has been awarded continuation funding for 2021 from Dorset Police. This will enable us to support at least 100 more women across Dorset.

Our Vision

Giving vital support to vulnerable people who’ve been impacted by prison and the criminal justice system. Helping to build safer communities and brighter futures across Dorset and Hampshire.
Mentoring

There are many ways we help people who are impacted by prison and the criminal justice system, always with the individual and their experiences in mind.
Approved Premises

Prisoners who are classified as “high risk of harm to the public” often reside in Approved Premises run by the National Probation Service for the first 3-6 months after release. They can be a long way from home, isolating them from positive influences such as friends or family support and making it difficult to secure employment. To address these needs, we are piloting three support and employment schemes at Glogan House, Bridgwater, Dickson’s House, Fareham and the Grange, Waterlooville.

Female Out of Court Diversionary Scheme

In partnership with Dorset Police and PCC we have developed Out of Court Diversionary Scheme for women at the point of arrest for the first time or those who have a previous criminal record but have not offended in the past 2 years and are classified as vulnerable. These women are given a conditional caution and opportunity to work with us rather than progressing to court. Vulnerabilities include mental health problems, women living in coercive or controlling relationships, domestic violence
