Footprints supports the local community and those returning to it. Our goal is not just to build better lives for people leaving prison but their families, friends and future acquaintances.

Rick was being released from prison in December. Rick had young children living with his girlfriend in his hometown, which he was eager to return to; however, he was not being released to his hometown. Rick was being released on probation to a location 100 miles away.
We visited and assessed him while in prison, where we reassured him that he wasn’t on his own; he would have our support if he chose to use it. A month later, when he was released, we collected him from the gate and drove him the 75-mile journey to his probation hostel, where he would be staying. The journey was very successful, introducing Rick to his mentor, who built a connection with him and learned more about him as a person. We also assisted him in arranging his Universal Credit over the phone before dropping him off.
Over the next 3 months, Rick’s mentor worked with him to access funds, obtain clothing, and attend family court team meetings. Rick’s mentor helped him find accommodation when he moved back to his hometown and liaised with his probation officer to work together. She met with him and helped him through difficult, emotional times, keeping him focused on his goals and away from old habits. She continued with weekly phone calls for 6 weeks after he moved back home to his girlfriend and children.
He is now seeking employment and continues to build positive structures and to engage with his probation officer. We wish him well and hope his time at Footprints has given him the boost he needs to build a better life for himself and his family.
