Footprints offers a range of direct and non-direct contact, and in-person and remote roles. Each role will require different commitments, and can have different requirements at the application and onboarding stages. However, all our volunteers are required to provide two referees.

Volunteer Mentors, Second Chances Volunteer and Volunteer Instructors
Volunteers who will have direct contact with people we support are required to be at least 21 years old and will have to undertake a DBS check. We encourage applications from those with criminal records and lived-experience however at least 6-months must have passed and you must have completed statutory supervision.
Volunteer mentors will need to attend 18 hours of training, often over two days. Volunteer mentors have the opportunity to shadow a member of staff or experienced volunteer before you are matched to a mentee. Second Chances Volunteers and AP Instructors will be required to do 1 day of training and will have the opportunity to visit the group before you begin.

Community Fundraising and Events Volunteer
Volunteers on the community fundraising and events team may have contact with people we support and the public, including children, at events or through local initiatives. You are required to be at least 18 years old and will have to undertake a DBS check. We encourage applications from those with criminal records and lived-experience however at least 6-months must have passed and you must have completed statutory supervision.

Social Media and Website Volunteer
Our social media and website volunteers do not have requirements around age, although you may be required to undertake a DBS check. We encourage applications from those with criminal records and lived-experience however at least 6-months must have passed and you must have completed statutory supervision.
If you have direct experience with social media or websites, please include that in your application however it is not required if you can demonstrate writing, design or videography skills. If you remain a long-term volunteer, you may receive training in our website system or social media SEO or related skills.

Other Volunteers
Other volunteering roles will typically follow the same rules depending on the amount of contact you have with the people we support, the public or internal systems. You may receive age restrictions or need to undertake a DBS check. We encourage applications from those with criminal records and lived-experience however at least 6-months must have passed and you must have completed statutory supervision.
Training will depend on the role and the skills you bring to the opportunity. These will be discussed with you after you have applied.
